✦ 2022 Wauchope & Hinterland Business Awards
Wauchope Creative Hub co-op is an art gallery and retail store, home to over 25 local arts and crafts people who volunteer their time to staff the store 6 days a week. The Hub formed a registered co-op in July 2021 from a group of creative artisans looking for a secure and stable, low cost space to exhibit and sell their locally handmade items.
Strength is in the creative community
A creative family of artisans, local arts and crafts people exhibiting and selling their locally handmade goods in the gallery and retail store drives the uniqueness. People from Ellenborough, Long Flat, Beechwood, Camden Haven, Port Macquarie, Rollands Plains, King Creek, Wauchope and everywhere in between make up the creative family.
Just about every type of art and craft from hand spun local Alpaca, candles, paintings, jewellery, quilting, flowers and home made jams can be found at the Hub. It is the largest arts and crafts co-op on the Mid North Coast with a huge following of loyal customers who are dedicated to buying local and supporting the local creative community.
Connections established
Collaboration with PMHC and the Glasshouse gallery, joining in established and emerging local events such as the ArtWalk satellite event at The Hub, the Wauchope Lasiandra festival, Hello Koala Sculpture Trail, PMHC Curios and arts trail, PMHC open studio trail to name a few, have shown a strong commitment to the local community. Currently there is an exhibition in the gallery from WRAP Inclusive Arts; an inclusive creative program for local people with disabilities.
The Wauchope Creative Hub Co-op's main objective is to support our local creative members and wider creative community. Examples are; the opening of a small consulting room that has been utilized by a local group Parents First to hold meetings in a more convenient location for local support, a local Spinning group also gathers weekly for free.
The creatives at the Hub have raised over $900 for the Cancer Council at their Biggest Morning Tea and they have local live music in store whenever possible to promote this aspect of the local arts scene. TheGallery has housed numerous free community, school, disability and creative group shows at no cost to the community group all with the aim of giving people a platform to exhibit.
