Port Macquarie Welcomes the 2026 Year of the Fire Horse at Lunar New Year Dinner

✦ Almost 50 members of the Port Macquarie community gathered on Saturday, 28 February 2026 — the 12th day of the Lunar New Year, to celebrate the arrival of the 2026 Year of the Fire Horse.
The evening was a vibrant celebration of prosperity, courage, energy and abundance — the defining qualities of the Fire Horse year.
A Fire Horse Year: Bold Energy and Forward Momentum
The Horse symbolises strength, independence and progress. When combined with the Fire element, 2026 is predicted to favour bold decision-makers, innovators and those ready to act with confidence.

It was the perfect theme for a community dinner centred around optimism and forward movement.
A Fun Start: The Chopstick Peanut Challenge
The evening kicked off with laughter and friendly competition.
Every guest participated in a 30-second chopstick challenge, attempting to pick up as many peanuts as possible and transfer them into a bowl. Each table counted their results and announced their table champion.
The grand prize winner, who took home an unforgettable experience, was Jean Heng, who picked up an impressive 38 peanuts.
Jean won a scenic flight around Port Macquarie in a Diamond Aircraft, generously sponsored by the Australian International Aviation College (AIAC).

Guests then enjoyed a specially curated Lunar New Year banquet prepared by the Cantonese chefs of 27 Palace. Many thanks to Ruby Liao who co-ordinated with the chefs to curate this menu.

The dishes symbolised abundance, harmony, prosperity and forward progress, perfectly aligned with the spirit of the Fire Horse.
At one joyful moment, the entire room stood together and loudly wished one another:

The meals were generous, the atmosphere was lively, and the evening was filled with connection, laughter and celebration.
Each guest went home with a traditional red packet containing a gold chocolate coin — a sweet symbol of wealth and good fortune for the year ahead.
