One wish for 2023

2023 is an exciting time for Port Macquarie EaTs and the people who flock to our beloved region. Their wish is to have more businesses added to their App as the team are determined to make it as comprehensive as possible.

“Adding more events to the area will help enhance the beautiful region we live in, entertaining both locals and visitors. With a little help from everyone, we can make this goal a reality very soon,” said Ellen.

Challenges faced and overcome

As a woman business owner, Ellen is no stranger to the challenges of balancing work and family. Being both a full-time employee and part-time entrepreneur makes it difficult to find enough hours in the day sometimes she told us.

“On top of that, I'm also a mum, with my kids being my priority. It's definitely not easy, but I've managed to set boundaries and prioritise my workload in order to make sure everyone is taken care of. Being able to take on different roles has made me confident in knowing that no matter what life throws at me, I can handle it.”

A leader in her chosen field

Ellen strives to set herself apart by having an innovative approach to problem-solving and decision-making. Not only does she see challenges as opportunities, but she also wholeheartedly believes that great ideas can come from anywhere and that collaboration between teams can increase both efficiency and effectiveness of solutions.

Her goal is always to be proactive in finding new and better ways of doing things, regardless of the sector or industry. In order to achieve this goal, she has always made sure to stay on top of new developments in technology, economics, and other areas that could aid her in delivering more comprehensive solutions to the organizations she is a part of.

Innovation and change

Over the last few years Ellen has seen some incredible changes in her business.

“Most notably, I turned a casual Facebook group I created into a legitimate business idea. It was amazing to witness the transformation from a place where people could just come together and chat about their passions, to an innovative selling platform full of customers and merchandise. Seeing something that began as an after-work hobby develop into something much more meaningful is definitely one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,“ she said.

When COVID-19 hit our state, it had devastating effects on the hospitality industry. With strict regulations in place, Ellen found herself stepping up to the challenge of keeping her establishment open amidst the rubble. To adjust for the changing times, she came up with creative and innovative ways to keep business going by creating the EaTs group. It was a difficult process, but one that paid off, as Port Macquarie EaTs were able to remain operational whilst many others had to close their doors completely.

“In such a trying time, I am proud of what my team and I were able to achieve by thinking outside the box," Ellen told us.

Leveraging technology made life easier

The Port Macquarie EaTs App has been an integral part of the business. It has made organising festivals and events so much easier The app is constantly being updated with new features, making it suitable for various events and settings.

“Just recently we had a festival and leveraged the App to improve our customers’ experience. They were able to keep up-to-date with the stall holders in real time as we could use the App to make quick adjustments as needed. The feedback from this festival was extremely positive and we look forward to continuing using the App at future festivals.”

Can business help make Earth a better place?

Ellen believes that every day, new opportunities arise for great minds to create sustainable solutions by developing environmentally-friendly products and services.

Offsetting carbon emissions through renewable energy investments, switching from single-use plastics to reusable materials, and offering incentives for purchasing eco-friendly products are just a few of the many ways that a business can have a positive impact on our beloved planet.

Further to this she says that by combining passion and innovation, there is no limit to what ambitious people can do to protect our environment and make Earth an even more beautiful place.

Moreover, thanks to the features embedded in the App, no resources have to be wasted when sharing guidelines or conducting tours around the meeting space. Ultimately, getting on the Port Macquarie EaTs App can help businesses in becoming more sustainable.
