Glenda Hamilton: The Quiet Force Behind a Thriving Community

✦ In every community, there are people who quietly move mountains. They don’t seek the spotlight. They don’t make a fuss. But their impact is deep, lasting, and impossible to ignore. Glenda Hamilton is one of those people.

For over a decade, Glenda has been the heart and backbone of countless initiatives across the Port Macquarie-Hastings region—serving not just one cause, but a vibrant patchwork of organisations that empower, uplift, and connect people from all walks of life.

Now, her tireless dedication is being recognised with a Volunteer of the Year nomination, and it couldn’t be more well deserved.

A Decade of Service—and Still Going Strong

Glenda’s volunteer work spans business, education, music, disability support, and large-scale community events. She has served as Treasurer, Vice President, and Membership Secretary at the Micro Business Forum (MBF), helping the organisation grow into a professional and supportive hub for local entrepreneurs. From event planning and policy reviews to governance and newsletters, Glenda is always the one who makes things happen—calmly, reliably, and brilliantly behind the scenes.

At the Mid North Coast Community College, where she has been a board member for over 10 years, Glenda has helped shape strategic direction, expand learning programs, and support the region’s educational resilience.

And then there’s the School of Hard Knocks Choir—a heart-centred program Glenda helped co-found to support socially isolated adults through music. She still volunteers weekly, ensuring rehearsals and concerts run smoothly and participants feel welcome and valued.

At the Hastings Business Women’s Network (HBWN), Glenda played a key role in creating safe, empowering spaces for women to grow both professionally and personally. Her impact was not just organisational but deeply personal. A standout story is her mentorship of Stacey Morgan, now a highly successful business owner and Principal of Port Macquarie Performing Arts. Over months of regular mentoring sessions, Glenda helped Stacey gain the confidence, clarity, and structure she needed to step fully into her leadership role. Stacey often describes Glenda’s mentorship as “legendary”—a pivotal chapter in her business journey that continues to shape her success today.

Glenda’s spirit of service extends to major community events like Ironman Port Macquarie, where she volunteers each year with grace and calm. From athlete check-ins to race-day logistics, she’s a steady, dependable presence behind the scenes. Her contribution may not always be front and centre, but her quiet dedication helps ensure these large-scale events run smoothly for thousands of participants and spectators—an essential cog in the wheel that makes the day shine.

More Than Volunteer Work—A Legacy of Empowerment

What makes Glenda truly exceptional is the human ripple effect of her work.

She doesn’t just manage tasks—she empowers people. From mentoring emerging leaders like Stacey Morgan, who now runs a successful performing arts business, to offering a listening ear and advice to small business owners, Glenda is the mentor, cheerleader, and steady guide we all wish we had.

Her support extends to events like Ironman Port Macquarie, where she volunteers annually to help operations run without a hitch.

But perhaps her greatest gift is her ability to uplift others quietly—never seeking praise, always focused on making things better for everyone else.

Innovation Has No Age Limit

In her 70s, Glenda is still learning, adapting, and innovating. She uses tools like HubSpot, MailChimp, WIX, Google Workspace, and Zoom—modernising the systems of the organisations she volunteers for and proving that age is no barrier to relevance.

She’s the first to notice when a system needs refining, the first to draft a new policy, and the one who quietly keeps things running when others step back.

The Heartbeat of Community

Glenda Hamilton doesn’t wear a cape—but her superpower is showing up, time and time again, with grace, insight, and unwavering dedication.

She reminds us that real impact isn’t always loud or flashy. Sometimes, it’s the kind word, the organised spreadsheet, the warm smile at choir rehearsal, or the gentle nudge of encouragement that changes someone’s life.

Glenda is a shining example of what it means to serve with humility and heart. Her nomination for Volunteer of the Year is not just a celebration of her work—it’s a celebration of every person who chooses to give their time, their skills, and their spirit to make the world a little brighter.

📣 Let Glenda’s story inspire you. Look around your own community—who’s the quiet force making a difference? Or maybe… it’s you.
