Transforming Media Communications
Robin Wilson’s role as editor of Brilliant is his latest in a long career of more than 40 years in journalism and international public relations that’s seen him work with some of the world’s top corporate brands across diverse business sectors.
His career began in the traditional print media of the 1970s and progressed to embrace the myriad technologies and online formats that have transformed media communications over the years – now dynamically manifested in Brilliant’s digital multi-dimensional format.
After graduating from the University of Birmingham Robin underwent formal training with the UK’s National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), before joining the country’s biggest provincial evening newspaper as news reporter and feature writer.
He transitioned into public relations at an agency in Birmingham, then in 1988 he moved to Dubai to take up his first international PR position with an agency servicing clients Emirates, Airbus Industrie and BHP Petroleum.
After this he joined the Middle East operations of global PR & communications agency H+K Strategies, spending seven years in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Dubai, handling clients including DHL Worldwide Express, Ford Motor Company, Rolls-Royce, GlaxoSmithkline, Unilever and The Body Shop.
In 1996 he transferred to H+K Strategies’ Singapore office, where he worked for clients such British Telecom, LG Electronics and the Indonesian Tourism Board, then moved with them to Beijing, Hong Kong and Tokyo to plan and implement communications projects for Boeing, Unilever, Oracle and Asia Pacific Breweries (part of the HEINEKEN Company).
This was followed by more than three years in an in-house position with The Coca-Cola Company to direct its PR and community relations in Southeast Asia; another two years in the Middle East in-house with an H+K Strategies corporate client in Kuwait; then two years in-house handling media relations for Emirates in Dubai.
Most recently, he was with H+K Strategies in Singapore working on communications projects for Temasek investment company and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and after that he was Director of Marketing Communications & Events for Laguna Hotels & Resorts in Phuket, Thailand.
